Global chip shortage intensifies

July 22, 2021 – Intel’s CEO Pat Gelsinger warned the chip shortage could worsen during H2 2021, predicting normalization might take a year or two. Around the same time, Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang expected tight supply to persist into 2022, while AMD’s Lisa Su cautioned that relief may not come until late 2022. This aligns with IBM’s Arvind Krishna predicting the shortage might linger until 2023 or 2024. These statements underscore how the pandemic-triggered surge in demand everywhere—from automotive to consumer electronics—deeply strained production capacity and reshaped global supply chains.
